The reason, why?

There is a reason why you should choose a licensed electrician vs a non licensed. What you do is your business, I am simply giving you some advice from experience. Just one of the main reasons why the State or City issues a license to a contractor weather it's a carpenter or plumber is so that he can follow the minimum code requirements for your own safety. You can get a non licensed contractor that might not know specific code requirements to do the job for less. Example, you can have a patio deck built by a non licensed contractor that might look the same as the one built by a licensed one. But when you have a party and you have fifty people on it and the deck comes crashing down because you wanted to save a few bucks, then you have real problems. The licensed guy wanted to use 2x10 floor joices when the non licensed you hired for less used 2x8 floor joices to save you money, but at the same time weakening your floor. Same goes with electric but worst. Out of all the contractors you hire, be sure the electrician is licensed. If the carpenter messes up the wall might come down, if a plumber messes up you might get a flood, but, if an electrician messes up your whole house can burn down or you can sustain serious injuries.

The story...

I'm not trying to scare you, but I have seen some bad workmanship in my career as an electrician. I once seen a fire start right in front of me because the electrician before me couldn't fix the problem, so he did a quick fix, got paid and left. The customer was complaining of a very hot switch plate, when I opened it and saw the quick fix from the other electrician, I immediately showed the customer the problem and how the wire was red hot. At that moment it started to flame up, scaring the customer. She started to tell me, "put it out". As I did she realized that I came just in time before the house when up in flames. I hope you understand the danger in unlicensed electrical work. Although I have also seen poor workmanship from a licensed electrician. All I can say is that, if you can, try to get a recommended electrician.
