Before calling the electrician do the following to avoid a service call charge:

One of the worst things that I don't like doing to a customer is coming out to a service call and charging them to flip a wall switch, reset a breaker, or change a light bulb. There were plenty of times that this happened in my 25 years in this field. That is why I always say: did you check the bulb?.... did you reset the breaker?..... Do you have a wall switch that controls that outlet?....Etc... They usually say yes but when I get to the job it turns out that they didn't do it right. The following is a way to check for electrical failure situations.

How to check your circuit breakers!

The proper way to check them is to shut the breaker all the way to the off position, then turning it back to the on position. Do this a few times.

Light out?

Try changing the light bulb to one that works by testing the bulb at a different location. Believe it or not sometimes a bulb, new or old, can be defective. Then check your breakers.

Receptacle not working?

Make sure that the receptacle is not controlled by a nearby wall switch, which are sometimes used for floor lamps. Then check your circuit breakers.

Water leake in fixture?

When a water leake occuers, turn off the light switch. Let it dry for about 3 days then turn the switch on, it should clear and come back on. By Doing this, usually you can save a service charge from your electrician.
